MZ Architects Rock Stadium

A lot of the projects in the class include slits in the outside ply wood box. Look how powerful slits can be in an architectural project, whether one is considering a view inward, a view outward, or light escaping through the slits at night.

Herzog and DeMeuron winery

Here is a box project that relies on the expressive capacity of stone in the form of a building cloaked entirely in Gabian baskets. Note how the openings in the box frame specific views inside, or right through the box toward views of the landscape.

Pre-cast parts make a house

This is one of my favourite pieces of architecture in the last ten years. It is a house made from stacked pre-cast concrete parts for bridge and overpass construction. I have included the project because several projects in the class are comprised of stacked blocks. Note how the careful placement of each part serves to define different spaces inside the house. The lap pool is ingenious.

Thomas Heatherwick - Sitooterie

A number of students have projects that incorporate dowels or thin stick-like elements, sometimes dispersed or in clusters. Have a look at Heatherwick's work, in particular the cathedral.
